Alberta Class 7 GDL Knowledge Practice Test 2025 — Free

Alberta operates a two-stage Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) program administered by Alberta Transportation and delivered through Registry Agents across the province. To obtain your Class 7 Learner licence you must visit a Registry Agent, provide identification, pass a vision screening, and pay approximately $17–$20 for the knowledge test. You must be at least 14 years old. As a Class 7 driver you must maintain zero blood alcohol, have a fully licenced supervisor in the front seat at all times, and are prohibited from driving between midnight and 5 a.m. After holding the Class 7 for at least one year without suspensions, you can take the road test for a Class 5 GDL Probationary licence.

The Alberta knowledge test contains 30 multiple-choice questions and requires a score of at least 25 out of 30 — approximately 83% — to pass. There is no per-section threshold; the overall score is what matters. Questions are drawn from the Alberta Driver's Guide and cover road signs, traffic rules, right-of-way, and GDL-specific regulations. You can retake the test on the same visit if you fail, subject to an additional fee. Results are available immediately at the counter.

The road-signs portion of the test evaluates your recognition of regulatory signs (speed limits, STOP, YIELD, turning restrictions), warning signs (curves, hills, wildlife crossings), construction zone signs, and information signs. The rules section tests intersection procedures, lane discipline on multi-lane highways, passing on two-lane rural roads, school and playground zones (which in Alberta are active when children are visible, not just during set hours), and the unique rural-road speed rules — the default speed on paved highways is 100 km/h and on gravel is 80 km/h unless posted otherwise.

LicenceReady's Alberta GDL practice tests are built from the same topics examined by Alberta Transportation. Each question includes a plain-language explanation so you understand the rule, not just the correct answer. Target a consistent score above 90% before booking your Registry Agent appointment. Supplement your practice with the free official Alberta Driver's Guide PDF, which is the definitive source for exam content.
