Newfoundland & Labrador Class 5 Practice Test 2025 — Free
Newfoundland and Labrador's graduated licensing program is administered by Motor Registration Division under Service NL. To obtain your Class 5 Learner's licence you must be at least 16 years old, visit a motor registration office, present acceptable identification, pass a vision test, and pass the written knowledge exam. The test fee is approximately $27. As a Class 5 Learner you must drive only with a fully licenced supervisor who has held a licence for at least two years, maintain zero blood alcohol, and may not drive between midnight and 5 a.m. After holding the Learner's stage for at least 12 months you can take the Class 5 road test for a Probationary licence.
The Newfoundland and Labrador knowledge test has 40 multiple-choice questions drawn from the Driving for Life handbook. You must answer at least 32 correctly — 80% — to pass. The test covers road signs, rules of the road, right-of-way, and graduated licensing restrictions. If you fail, you may retake the test after 24 hours. Results are immediate upon completion at the motor registration office terminal.
NL's geography creates some distinctive exam topics. The province is rugged and heavily forested, with moose being a serious and tested road hazard — the rules section addresses what to do when you see wildlife on or near the road, especially after dark when moose are hardest to see. The test also covers winter-driving rules including the legal requirement for winter tires on all vehicles (recommended, though not yet mandated province-wide), safe following distances on ice and packed snow, and the rules for driving on the Trans-Canada Highway in white-out conditions.
LicenceReady's Newfoundland practice tests are designed around the Driving for Life handbook content. Aim for 90%+ in practice before your motor registration appointment. The Driving for Life handbook is available as a free PDF on the Service NL website and is the only official source for exam content.
